I am a bit of a snob when it comes to travel stays in London; because you have to spend so much on a hotel in the capital I always want things to feel like a home from home, super luxurious and be an interior design dream. Alas for that in London, and other cities, you have to pay so much for that kind of stay and usually I end up staying somewhere budget friendly which inevitably feels a bit rubbish with starchy sheets, uncomfortable beds and no space. I've tried AirBnB but it felt like I was intruding into someone else's home and wasn't quite for me. My ideal would be a hybrid of the two, an apartment stay but with a hotel luxe feel, so when Cuckooz asked me if I wanted to try out a stay at their Aldgate East apartment I was thrilled to say yes and see whether this could be the answer to my London stay problems!
Cuckooz have apartments across London including apartments in Hoxton, Shoreditch and King’s Cross and all have a design-led ethos with stunning creative collaborations, including collabs with 2LovelyGays (Aldgate East) - more pictures on that coming in a minute... London Design Festival's Landmark Project creator, Camille Walala (Hoxton) Natalie Papageorgiadis (Shoreditch) and Nicola Bianchi at the coming soon Kings Cross apartments. They are also wonderful people over at Cuckooz, and their charitable partnership with Refuge means for every night’s stay they donate £2 to Refuge. So, I just couldn't wait to see the rooms over at Aldgate East, by one of my favourite designer duos,2LG Studio.
When I arrived at the apartment I was welcomed by a lovely Cuckooz host who walked me through the stunning apartment, talked through the Cuckooz Concierge tablet which you can order anything from takeaways to city experiences hosted by local experts and the Cuckooz C-Z (see what they did there!) guide too. I then got to look round the apartment and swoon at the design features. I had seen the Cuckooz apartments on social media and knew they were beautiful, but I didn't expect them to be so beautiful in real life! The attention to design detail was wonderful and the interiors are beautiful curations from some really talented interior designers.
Let us take a look around... Firstly into the main room; a beautiful sitting room, with TV, dining table and kitchen. I love apartment stays because you can come and go as you please, you have all amenities available to you to use if you want or if not there are so many wonderful places to eat near by! The interior design was absolutely stand out. The Aldgate East Apartment where I stayed has been design by 2LGStudio who have such a wonderful way with pattern and colour! I have to admit I did fan-girl a little at the prospect of staying in one of their designed rooms! The first thing that wowed was that wallpaper, beautiful gold and green. It looked so stunning in the light filled room, those big windows let so much light in! It was such a beautiful room and a complete contrast to some hotel rooms I've stayed in that have a tiny window in the corner with no light coming through.
Gorgeous design details; the lamp, super soft grey sofa, a velvet blush pink cushion and gorgeous marbled concrete side table with hairpin legs. This was the perfect spot to chill after a busy day sight seeing and running round the London Design Festival!
It was the perfect place to grab a cuppa in the morning and watch the news, even the media area where the tv, wifi and Apple TV was pretty! The addition of green plants everywhere really does make any design come alive.
This apartment really did feel like a home from home, with all those gorgeous green plants everywhere!
One of my favourite features of the room was the stunning shelving unit, full of books, C-Z guides, plants and beautiful vases.
The Kitchen space also had everything you could want for your stay, oven & hob, toaster, and most importantly a kettle and decent sized mugs for a proper morning cuppa, beats those small ridiculous hotel cups any day! Plus a nod to interior trends with those beautiful gold spoons and cutlery.
As well as a lovely dining area to use, as it was only me staying I didn't really use it, but had I had been with Mr I'm sure we would have had breakfast here before setting out on a day exploring!
So now onto the important bit the bedroom... I was mighty surprised in here. I was a little worried it would be beautifully designed but not comfortable and how I wrong I was. The bed was so comfy, the sheets and duvet felt 'fresh sheets Sunday' - there was definitely no starchy horribleness here! The pillows were comfortable and again the design features in this room were ever so beautiful. I had two very good night's sleep in this very comfortable bed and cosy space! It was wonderful to wake up feeling refreshed and in a beautifully stunning room.
The wallpaper in the bedroom was another stunning design feature; beautiful calming sea green with gold, the pictures just don't do it justice!
I would also never have the courage to put together such a muted colour of the wall paper with such a bright blue of the side table. A wonderful design feature that I may need to borrow over at Number Five!
So a wonderful night's sleep but what else did the Cuckooz team have to offer? The Cuckooz Live Local ethos is what sets this apart from other apartment style stays, they encourage you to live local, explore your local surroundings and explore a part of London you might have not have seen before. Their C-Z Guides really help you to find your bearings and pick the best things to see. Being more of a country girl than a city dweller, I always thought I wasn't cool enough to explore East London. I am still not cool enough to be an East Londoner, however I was able to explore some amazing places; Spitafields Market, Brick Lane, Commercial Road, BoxPark and Shoreditch High Street were all amazing places i've never visited before and could explore being only a short stroll away!
All in all I had the most amazing stay at a beautifully designed apartment; not only were the interiors wonderful, but the attention to detail in making a guest feel like it was a super luxe hotel stay was spot on! Now to try out another unexplored area of London.
